Abel & Imray have an exciting future in developing the commercial activities of the business. The pace of technological change, especially in the area of data gathering and CRM (Customer Relationship Management), is rapidly increasing. That means we’re now seeking a business development executive to join our Bath office, initially on a part-time basis, but with the possibility of making the role full-time. If you are right for the role and aren’t able to work in Bath, we would consider having you join either our Cardiff or London office.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to be directly responsible for initiating, monitoring and managing marketing activities that drive our commercial side. You can expect plenty of variety in your role. From teaming up with individual attorneys to help with pitches and business development strategies, to arranging our own marketing events.

Above all, you’ll be bringing your ideas and tech industry knowledge to our firm, along with plenty of communication, investigative and organisational skills – helping turn initiatives into fantastic new marketing opportunities, right across the business.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll certainly be thinking and acting on your feet as a business development executive at Abel & Imray – where flexibility and an eye for spotting commercial initiatives are key. Your responsibilities for this job will be:

  • Overseeing and managing marketing activities – this could be helping implement a business development strategy for the firm. Setting up and running a new system for handling new client enquiries, as well as liaising with third parties who provide our business development consultancy services.
  • Organising and participating in group meetings. You can expect these to be a regular part of your working week. You’ll also be working with individual attorneys to develop a range of business development plans.
  • Data gathering for potential targets. This could be, for example, collating data on third party patent or trade mark portfolios, key people, contact details, etc. You’ll also be responsible for evaluating new CRM software/systems.
  • Assisting in running marketing events, pitches and tenders. From looking for events to sponsor and attend, to maintaining and updating the firm’s marketing materials. You’ll also take charge of submissions to Legal 500 and other legal directories.

You’re committed to managing your time efficiently and being accurate in your work, and you seek out and communicate your ideas to the team. Each day brings various challenges, company developments to share and new systems to get to grips with. And whether you’re attending a group meeting or organising an event, you enjoy being flexible and openly collaborating with others, just as much as you enjoy working on your own initiative.

  • You’ll have experience as a business development executive or commercial manager for a professional services firm. Or working in the commercial or marketing arm of a mid-to-large-sized company, preferably some form of tech industry.
  • You will bring your own inspiration and ideas with you, using those to help us develop, implement and manage the commercial / marketing initiatives and strategies we currently have.
  • You know how to navigate publically accessible IP-related websites, such as Espacenet, Ipsum, etc.
  • You will have basic knowledge of word processing programmes, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook.
  • You’ll be quick to be familiarise yourself our telephone system, which uses Skype for Business.
  • Overall, you’re familiar with computers generally – from navigating the Internet to quickly picking up how to use new computer systems.
