Gareth joined Abel & Imray in 2020 and is based in the Cardiff office. Previously Gareth spent nine years at another IP firm, including an in-house secondment to an IP department of a large multi-national company. Gareth has experience in semiconductor fabrication technologies, lasers, optics and photonics, electronics, telecoms, display technologies, image processing, AI and machine learning systems, 3D printing technologies, medical devices, and aerospace technologies.
Prior to joining the patent profession, Gareth worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Cardiff University where he conducted research into developing novel semiconductor lasers incorporating photonic bandgap structures. His research involved developing fabrication processes for realising novel laser structures and developing characterisation techniques for assessing laser devices.
Gareth has experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications to grant, in particular in the UK, Europe, and the US, including conducting oral proceedings before the various divisions and the appeal boards of the EPO.
