How we use AI

How we use AI

We use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support some aspects of our work — for example, assisting with drafting legal and IP documents (including some agreements), reviewing technical material, and supporting patent, trade mark and design searching. AI helps us work more efficiently and review a broader range of material, but it does not replace the professional judgement or responsibility of our qualified attorneys and solicitors, and AI outputs are never presented as legal advice.

All substantive work is reviewed and approved by a qualified attorney or solicitor, who remains fully responsible for the final advice and filings. AI outputs are treated as draft only and are reviewed for accuracy, completeness and professional appropriateness (including potential bias) before being relied upon.

Routine internal uses of AI — such as formatting, grammar support or generic background research — are not treated as having played a "material" role in your work.

Where AI tools are used with client information, they are used only in secure firm-managed or enterprise environments, with suitable anonymisation or redaction, or under contractual and technical safeguards that restrict retention, reuse and onward disclosure in a way consistent with our professional and regulatory obligations. We maintain a register of approved AI tools for security, data-handling and suitability for professional use, and we do not input confidential client information into unapproved public AI tools. All safeguards are applied consistently with applicable UK and EU data protection law.

Where AI plays a material role in substantive drafting, search analysis or legal reasoning, we verify citations and references, confirm technical and factual accuracy, and review the reasoning and legal conclusions before relying on them. If AI has made a material contribution to work, we deliver to you or file on your behalf, we will tell you and can explain how it was used and the safeguards and review processes applied.

AI is a supportive tool that assists our attorneys and solicitors; it does not make decisions. All legal, strategic and technical assessments remain the responsibility of our qualified human professionals, who apply their skill, experience and understanding of your commercial objectives.
