During London Climate Week, we are highlighting the organisations Abel + Imray are working with and who have been nominated for The Earthshot Prize through The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).
Below is a list of organisations we are working with, along with a direct quote from the CIPA website.
DeepTech Recycling
"Based in the UK, DeepTech Recycling has developed a cutting-edge technology that takes plastic waste that would usually end up in landfill or incineration, such as crisp packets, food trays, plastic film and even polystyrene – and transforms it into a material called Plaxx. Plaxx is a high-quality hydrocarbon product that can be used to make new, virgin-grade plastic. It acts as a replacement for crude oil in the plastics manufacturing process, closing the loop on plastic use."
Nellie Technologies
"Nellie Technologies has emerged as a frontrunner in the 2025 Earthshot Prize nominations, showcasing a groundbreaking solution for carbon dioxide removal through microalgal growth. Their innovative approach not only addresses climate change but also fosters economic growth and community engagement, making them a standout candidate for the prestigious award."
Fibrillogenesis Limited
"Fibrillogenesis aims to turn hard to recycle animal waste into high value, on demand textile products. The company, which CIPA has nominated for an Earthshot Prize in the Build A Waste Free World category, is developing a technology to process waste such as low value animal hides into a sustainable filament that is then made suitable for knit and woven textile products."
Gazelle Wind Power Limited
"Gazelle Wind Power Ltd, headquartered in Ireland with subsidiaries in the UK and Portugal, has developed an innovative floating platform system designed to enable the deployment of offshore wind turbines in deeper waters—areas where fixed-bottom structures are not suitable. This approach opens up significantly more locations for renewable energy generation, helping accelerate the transition to clean power."
neo-fossil
"Bristol-based startup neo-fossil is creating brand-new fossils – but with a twist. These aren’t remnants of the past, but carbon-storing biomaterials that permanently lock away carbon dioxide from the air for centuries, turning emissions in the atmosphere into useful products that can help build a sustainable future."
Gecko Rubber
"Gecko Rubber Ltd, based in the UK, has developed the world’s first 100% recyclable, airless bicycle tyre that offers a sustainable alternative to conventional pneumatic tyres. Using a new ultra-light, cellular rubber compound, the Gecko tyre is designed to eliminate punctures, reduce maintenance, and significantly cut environmental impact."
Forge Minerals
"Forge Minerals Ltd, a UK-based company, has developed a pioneering carbon storage solution that combines scientific innovation with industrial practicality. At the heart of their technology is a low-energy reactor that permanently stores CO₂ by converting it into valuable mineral products. This process not only captures carbon but also displaces emissions in downstream industries such as pharmaceuticals, construction, and chemicals."
COtooCLEAN Process
"COtooCLEAN is a waterless cleaning process for polyolefin films, that uses carbon dioxide as a solvent in the super-critical state. It removes oils, fats and any potentially absorbed contamination bringing the material back to food-grade standard."
