Monday 8 March is International Women’s Day. This year, we have chosen to focus not on celebrating women’s achievements but on highlighting one of the harsher inequalities that women still face in the 21st century – the issue of violence against women and more specifically domestic abuse. This problem has unfortunately been able to grow during the pandemic and the suffering of survivors has been exacerbated hugely by the restrictions of lockdown.
On behalf of the firm, a colleague has created a JustGiving page to raise money for the charity Refuge. Refuge run a range of specialist services to help survivors of domestic abuse access safety and rebuild their lives. They understand each person’s circumstances and needs are different and that survivors need different services at different times. Their expert staff work closely, and confidentially, with every individual to develop a bespoke support plan. If a woman is not sure what service she wants or needs, Refuge will support her to explore her options. Very importantly, Refuge operate a free phone 24-Hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline 0808 2000 247, which is a lifeline for many women and children who find themselves in danger. For more information about the potentially lifesaving work that Refuge do, you can visit their website Refuge Against Domestic Violence - Help for women & children.
We are encouraging our colleagues to consider making a donation to Refuge in recognition of International Women’s Day, and if you would like to contribute to this cause please follow this link to the JustGiving page – thank you.
