Scientific Background
During John's final year master’s project he developed a low-cost capnograph using novel methods. This was proposed as capnographs are not accessible in less economically developed nations due to their price and energy consumption. To combat both issues he used a low-cost industrial gas sensor that made use of semiconductors to emit and detect the infrared radiation used to measure the CO2 content of expired breath. Throughout his studies he covered various aspects of physics including nanotechnology, optics and photonics, quantum mechanics, general relativity and cosmology, medical physics.
