Academic Qualifications: B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering, University of Surrey
Rachael joined Abel +
Imray in 2020 and is based in our London office. Rachael has a mechanical
engineering background and her work at Abel + Imray covers a wide range of
industries including aerospace, pest control, household structures and
mechanical devices. She works with a variety of clients ranging from small
local businesses, in-house IP departments at large multinational companies, to
foreign agents.
Before Rachael started
training as a patent attorney, she worked in automotive engineering at a global
technical consultancy. She primarily worked as an engine simulation engineer,
optimising the performance of engines for hybrid vehicles. She also project
managed the design and build of a new climatic vehicle test facility suitable
for modular testing of high-performance vehicles.
Rachael’s research, while
working as a research intern and as a final-year student, focused on full-vehicle
simulation. She investigated the implementation of a novel engine, namely the
free piston engine, as a range-extender in series hybrid vehicles. During her
studies, Rachael specialised in stress analysis, engineering control systems
and electronics, and she enjoyed leading group projects designing autonomous
delivery robots.
Rachael is an alumni of
the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Engineering Leaders Scholarship and is proud
to have been awarded Ricardo’s Most Promising Female Engineer award. She is an
active member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and enjoys supporting
local schools and organisations through her regular STEM ambassador activities.
